I made many changes to the original Coats & Clark pattern. I love how it turned out, loose and boxy, with lots of ease, room to cuddle up on windy winter days.After the collar was sewn to the neckline, the seam was bulky and unsightly. Satin ribbon was hand sewn to cover the seam making the seam beautiful to the touch. A long coil of i-cord and satin ribbon closes the sweater with small snaps.

When Walmart stopped carrying soap savers, I took out my Peaches & Cream and thanks to Jennifer Hoel for her pattern, I knitted this one. This lovely yarn as purchased is very stiff and feels as if it is coated. I wound it from its ball and formed a hank from it, then washed it with hair conditioner. When dry, re-wound it into a center-pull ball and it is soft and nice to knit. The color transitions are amazing! So far the cuff of my new socks flows from khaki green to black to bright green. The matching hat is done! I doubled the yarn, Cascade 220, and knitted in the round on size 13 needles. After knitting the band, a great headband by itself, I picked up 60 stitches around and every ten stitches knitted 2 together until there were 12 remaining to bind off. I love this yarn and the hat is soft and warm. It matches the scarf too!

Today was the first time I wore my new scarf and along with my bright green Brooks shoes, it caused quite a sensation at lunch with the girls. In my opinion, when you put a lot of time into a project, your effort shines through and I am quite pleased with this one!

Done! It makes me feel like a piece of sushi, with my shoulders wrapped in leaves. It did take longer to knit with lace and color changes hanging on bobbins but I think it was worth the effort!

I'm trying to balance my knitting time between my Hoxbro City Jacket and this fun scarf. The idea to combine two completely different patterns was inspired by Berroco's Bark scarf. The knitting stays interesting because the color and pattern change but it does take longer to knit. My new winter jacket is dark green and this should add some color when the days are dreary.

The right front side has not been knitted yet and so you can see the inside of the darker right interior of the jacket. It is as interesting inside as out since the dark reverses to the light side. The construction is fascinating. When hand knitting looks like woven fabric, is it worth the enormous effort? I haven't an answer to this one.

The right front, the light side is now knitted and I'm working on the darker, left front side. This sweater has been so fascinating to knit even though it has been very slow to knit up. I'm surprised by how light it is even though it is 100% wool. I've rolled the entire sweater up in a lovely piece of muslin fabric to protect the knitting that's been completed so far.

This is the inside view of the backing buttons I added to stabilize the shank button sewn on the front side. When the jacket was buttoned up, they hung loosely and pulled on the yarn. The bulky yarn creates large stitches and I was not sure if I was poking the button through a stitch or the created buttonhole so I ran a piece of yarn around the knitted buttonhole to reinforce. The buttonholes are now nicely formed and clearly defined. This is the inside view.

See the inside neckline with picked up stitches for the front edge border, K2P2. When I ripped the hood, I was able to save the front edging along the sleeve caps and back. I re-attached the border successfully. I was so relieved that I would not have to re-knit the entire border and buttonholes. After ripping the hood, I re-attached the K2P2 border and was left with a thick seam because the yarn is bulky. I picked up another row of stitches to create a hiding place for the re-attached border seam.

My periwinkle blue chubby with very dark purple buttons and rib bands on the pockets around the bottom of the jacket. In the photograph you see how few stitches are needed in bulky weight yarn and how much the K2P2 ribbing pulls in the flat fabric of the seed stitch body of the jacket. Dear readers, count 'em, 5 : the pattern calls for six, yes 6 button holes and 6 buttons but in the picture we do not see the 6th button hole because in this pattern, there is room for only 5! My chubbly seed stitch jacket was knitted in Brown Sheep Burly Spun 100% wool yarn and is very soft and cuddly. This is my first experience with bulky yarn and a gauge of 7 st = 4" on size 17 needles. It knits up very quickly but is tiresome on my hands to knit, moving the yarn along takes effort.

This sweater is knitted with Lorna's Laces silk and wool "Lion & Lamb Multi" yarn in blackwatch #304. I love to wear this when it is very cold outside because it's warm, soft and cuddley. With a scoop neck I was aways looking for a wrap for my neck. Here's a knitted collar instead of a scarf. It slips easily over the head and is easier to put on without an odd-shaped button and loop closure. The collar is basically a rectangle with a few increases along the short edge for shaping. This is the collar with the I-cord bind off at the top edge, K2P2 ribbing. A few ribs where sewn closed above the button to make a short seam and complete the neck opening for the collar, easy to do!
